Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority
(PSTA)
St. Petersburg/Clearwater, FL
Changes effective Sunday, December 3, 2023

PSTA will be enacting a few major service changes for December, namely truncating the routing for both the Central Ave Trolley, Route 58, & Route 90.
These changes are being implemented due to the need for the agency to balance their Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget, as well as the exhaustion of federal CARES Act funding from during the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally, more severe cuts were being proposed had various budget compromises not gone through.
- The Central Ave Trolley (Route 36) will travel between downtown St. Petersburg & Grand Central Station (GCS) only. Customers may use the SunRunner, as well as Routes 14, 18, 52, & 79 as alternatives – depending on where they’re traveling to/from.
- Central Ave between GCS & 49th St: Routes 18, 52, & SunRunner.
- Central Ave between 49th St & 58th St: Route 18 & SunRunner.
- Central Ave between 58th St & 66th St: SunRunner.
- Pasadena Ave S between Central Ave & Gulfport Blvd S: Route 79 & SunRunner.
- Pasadena Ave S between Gulfport Blvd S & Palms of Pasadena Hospital: Route 14 & SunRunner.
- Route 58 will no longer travel into the Carillon Business Park due to lower demand, post-Covid. Those needing to enter/exit Carillon can use one of the retained Route 52LX trips, or use Direct Connect to/from the PSTA 34th St N Transfer Center (PSTA Complex).
- Alternatively, customers may use stops along 28th St N & Scherer Dr N to access nearby bus routes:
- Stop # 3579 – Roosevelt Blvd N @ 28th St N: Serving Route 4 southbound & Route 58 eastbound.
- Stop # 3572 – 28th St N @ Scherer Dr N: Serving Route 4 northbound, Route 11 southbound, & Route 58 westbound.
- Stop # 3578 – 2829 Scherer Dr: Serving Route 11 northbound.
- Alternatively, customers may use stops along 28th St N & Scherer Dr N to access nearby bus routes:
- Route 90 will no longer travel along Central Ave, 34th St S, Pasadena Ave S, or the Corey Causeway. Buses will travel in a bi-directional fashion between the transfer point in Pinellas Point (25th Way S @ Roy Hanna Dr S) & 75th Ave in St. Pete Beach via the Pinellas Bayway & Gulf Blvd. Customers may use the SunRunner as an alternative for the Corey Causeway & Central Ave. Route 34 provides alternative service along 34th St S (US Hwy 19).
Other changes being made to the PSTA system include:

- Route 52LX will see a reduction in the number of trips each weekday. Currently, the route operates a total of 18 trips – 9 in each direction, with 10 total AM trips (5 in each direction) & 8 total PM trips (4 in each direction). A total of 6 trips are being eliminated, leaving 12 remaining. Please see the charts below to see which trips will be retained.

- Route 813 (Van service) will be eliminated in its entirety. Customers may use Routes 19, 61, 78, & the Jolley Trolley Coastal Route as alternatives – depending on where they’re traveling to/from.
- Main St (SR 580) & San Christopher Dr: Routes 61 & 78.
- Alt Hwy 19: Jolley Trolley Coastal Route.
- County Rd 1: Route 19 or the Jolley Trolley Coastal Route.
- Route 814 (Van service) will morph into the new Safety Harbor On-Demand service (also known as the 814 On-Demand). This service will operate as an extension of the PSTA Access paratransit service, but will be available to the general public. Please view the PSTA website information page to learn more about the new service.
