I got to visit the state of Illinois (though just the Chicago region) in 2000, 2021, & 2025 & had a great time! Unfortunately, my 2000 trip was very brief so I don’t really have any photos from that trip.

Regional Umbrella Agency
Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA)
Like some regions across the globe, the NITA acts as an umbrella agency of sorts – ensuring regional connectivity & coordination between the CTA, Pace, Metra, involved cities & counties, & the state of Illinois. The NITA does not procure equipment or vehicles but does oversee elements such as fare collection & is tasked with helping to develop the next generation regional fare collection system – which will likely act as the successor to the current Ventra smart card-based fare payment system.
