It is not always that I post something that is slightly off-topic. But since we have so many people in the Tampa Bay Area who flock to and from St. Pete Beach each day, I thought it would be wise to let everyone know of a roadway construction project that will cause massive detours during the next several months.
If you travel to St. Pete Beach via the Pinellas Bayway, the main causeway that leads you into St. Pete Beach and Fort Desoto Park, the westbound direction leading to the drawbridge span will be intermittently closed for the next few months. This is because FDOT is building a new four-lane fixed span bridge, which will be able to accommodate a lot more traffic than the current two-lane drawbridge.
When the Bayway is closed in the westbound direction, drivers will need to use the Corey Causeway, which is quite a ways northward. Please view the Google Map that I’ve created below for the complete detour route.
