Winter 2018 Holiday Transit Schedules

It’s the holidays!

It’s almost that time again – time to gather with family and friends for Christmas and New Year’s. As with many holidays, many transit agencies operate reduced schedules on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, with some smaller transit agencies not operating at all. Please see the list below as to which transit agencies will be operating on a particular holiday. Please keep in mind that this list is not inclusive of all transit networks in the US, so if you don’t see your respective agency listed here, please contact them directly.


Christmas Eve

Monday, December 24, 2018

Most transit agencies will operate normal weekday-level service on Christmas Eve. However, some agencies may have announced exceptions – such as early end of service. Below is a listing of known exceptions.

  • Florida
    • StarMetro: Night Service will not operate. This means that overall bus service will end after 7:00pm.
    • Emerald Coast Rider: Service will end after 2:00pm.
  • Mid-Atlantic US
    • Willamsburg Area Transit Authority: Sunday-level service.
    • GRTC Richmond: Some routes may operate a modified schedule (see website for details).
  • Northeastern US
    • CT Transit: Some routes may operate a modified schedule (see website for details).
    • Merrimack Valley RTA: Early end of service (after 6:00pm) with no Boston commuter service.
    • Montachusett RTA: Early end of service (after 6:00pm) with no Boston or Worcester shuttles & no JARC reverse commute service.
    • Pioneer Valley Transit Authority: Springfield & Holyoke based routes will end early (after 6:00pm), with Route B43 in Northampton and Amherst ending after 7:30pm. Some university-based routes may run reduced services through early January (see website for details).

Christmas Day

Most transit agencies will either operate on a Sunday-level schedule or not operate at all on Christmas Day.

  • Sunday-Level Service
    • Florida: HART, PSTA, LYNX (no Polk County service), Miami-Dade, Broward, JTA (no Skyway service).
    • Georgia: MARTA (other localized and regional services such as Gwinett may not operate).
    • Mid-Atlantic US: WeGo Nashville (TN)(No RTA Express or Commuter Rail), MATA Memphis (TN)(No Streetcar), Hampton Roads Transit (no Route 960 or Ferry service), GRTC Richmond, Fairfax Connector (VA).
    • Northeastern US: MTA NYCT/Bus, NICE (NY), CENTRO (NY), CT Transit, RIPTA, MBTA Boston (no Ferry service), MVRTD The Bus (VT),
      PAAC Pittsburgh (PA)(Light Rail & Incline will operate special schedules (see website), SEPTA (PA).
    • Others: Chicago CTA (IL), Pace Bus (IL), COTA (OH), Go Metro (OH), Greater Dayton RTA (OH) (Flyer Circulator will not operate), Cleveland RTA (OH), Houston METRO (TX), DART (TX), Trinity Metro (TX), Capitol Metro (TX) [Some services (such as Metrorail) may not operate (check websitefor details)], San Antonio VIA (TX), New Orleans RTA (LA), TriMet (OR)(WES Commuter Rail will not operate), King County Metro (WA), Spokane Transit Authority (WA).
  • Special Schedules
    • Florida: Votran (Routes 1, 3, 4, 10, 15, 17, 20, 21, 23, 40, 41 – see website for schedules), Tri-Rail (weekend service), Brightline (normal service – see website for departures), Bay Town Trolley (limited schedule – see website for schedules), ECAT (most routes operate every 2 hours with service ending after 4:00pm, see website for schedules).
    • Northeastern US: PATH, NJT (see website), SEVT “Moover” (VT) (Routes M8, M10, M11, M13 routes will not operate, all others will operate a weekday schedule).
  • No Service
    • Florida: PCPT, Hernando, SunTran, Lake Xpress, Gainesville, Palm Tran, Key West, SCAT (Sarasota), MCAT, SunRail, Polk Citrus Connection, Emerald Coast Rider.
    • Mid-Atlantic US: Knoxville (TN), DASH (VA), Suffolk Transit (VA), Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (VA), Star Transit (VA), Petersburg Area Transit (VA), iRide Service (VA).
    • Northeastern US: MATA Middletown (CT), LCTA Lucerne (PA), LRTA Lowell (MA), Martha’s Vineyard RTA, Pioneer Valley Transit Authority, Merrimack Valley RTA, Red Rose Transit, WRTA Worchester (MA), BRTA Pittsfield (MA), FRTA Greenfield (MA), SRTA Fall River (MA), Green Mountain Express (VT), Advance Transit (VT), SEVT “Current” (VT) (with exception to Route 61 – Okemo Commuter, which will operate a weekend schedule), Community Connector Bangor (ME), Zoom Shuttle Biddleford (ME), Lewiston Auburn CityLink (ME), Greater Portland Metro (ME), Southern Portland (ME).
    • Others: METRO RTA (OH), Trinity Railway Express (TX), Corpus Christi RTA (TX), Kitsap Transit (WA), Wenatchee/Leavenworth LINK (WA), Ben Franklin (WA).

New Year’s Eve

Most transit agencies will operate normal weekday-level service on Christmas Eve. To accommodate NYE festivities, some agencies will operate modified services. Other agencies may opt to end service early. Please visit the respective agency’s website for schedules.

  • Florida
    • PSTA: Routes 4, 52, 60, the Central Ave Trolley, the Suncoast Beach Trolley, and the Downtown St. Pete Looper will all operate until 1:00am.
    • TECOline Streetcar: Service will operate until 2:00am.
    • StarMetro: Service will end after 7:00pm (No Night Service).
  • Mid-Atlantic US
    • GRTC Richmond: Some routes may operate a modified schedule (see website for details).
  • Northeastern US
    • Merrimack Valley RTA: Early end of service (after 6:00pm) with no Boston commuter service.
