You got that right, a big TBARTA snafu (okay maybe NOT THAT BIG), but a snafu nonetheless. And this has to do with a job post that they put out on one of those online job search sites. There were also posts put into the two area newspapers.
To put everything in a nutshell, TBARTA posted a postion that was described as “Special Assistant to the Board”. The problem was, no one knew exactly what that position was or what specific duties were involved. Many applicants, according to the Tampa Tribune article (see here), thought it was a clerical postion. But board members thought the position would involve lobbying for funds, which is strictly prohibited by the state when it comes to agencies receiving public funds.
So, instead of narrowing down candidates, the TBARTA board will spend next week trying to clarify exactly what the position is for, while at the same time, trying to polish its reputation.
