With HART moving away from legacy fare passes (mag-swipe cards), I’ve decided to create a consolidated page to display fare payment information. PSTA eliminated the use of legacy fare passes at the start of 2024.

Supplemental Notes Regarding Fares
- * HART Route 1 is currently fare free thanks to a year-long pilot program that is being funded by the City of Tampa.
- ** Cash payments are not accepted on board the PSTA SunRunner (Bus Rapid Transit Service). Customers may use other fare payment methods listed below to pay for their rides on board the SunRunner.
- *** The TECO Line Streetcar remains fare free through the end of 2025 thanks to additional funding avenues. However, the long-term funding situation may prompt a reintroduction of fare payment.
Fare Payment Methods

Cash
Cash is accepted on board all HART & PSTA buses & vans for one-way trips, except the PSTA SunRunner BRT – which does not accept cash payments.
Once fares are reinstated on the TECO Line Streetcar, it is very likely that cash payments will also not be an option.
Those wishing to use cash on services that do not accept cash payments may either purchase a Flamingo Fares card at any HART or PSTA customer service center or obtain a Cash App card.

Flamingo Fares
Flamingo Fares is the contactless fare payment system that is actively endorsed & preferred by both HART & PSTA for fare payment. Customers can use Flamingo to pay for fares across both systems for all services.
Customers may either purchase a physical card at any HART or PSTA customer service center, or download the Flamingo Fares app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. A 3rd party retail sales network is currently in development – where customers can purchase & reload cards with cash, debit, or credit cards.
Limited Use Cards
PSTA currently employs two types of limited use cards for those who aren’t intending to use transit services beyond just an entire day. At this time, these cards MUST be purchased at PSTA customer service centers & are only valid on board the PSTA system. HART will begin selling these cards at a later date.
- 1 Ride Card: Can be purchased if only taking a single ride on a bus or van. Once the card is utilized, it cannot be used again.
- Daily Card: Can be purchased if taking more than one ride on a bus or van in a single day. Once service ends for the day, the card cannot be used again.

Contactless Bank Cards
All HART & PSTA buses & vans accept contactless debit & credit cards as valid fare payment methods. Be sure that your card has the contactless symbol as shown below. To ensure that your fares are properly capped each month, be sure to use the same card each time you board.
At this time, American Express cards are not accepted as payment aboard either system.

Mobile Wallet Apps
Mobile wallet apps such as Apple Pay & Google Pay are accepted on board all PSTA & HART buses & vans.

Token Transit App
Only available for the HART system at this time
Token Transit is a 3rd-party transit fare payment app that is gradually being adopted by transit agencies across the U.S.. The app allows customers to purchase digital transit passes & use them board supported transit systems. Customers may use any mobile device to retrieve their passes from the app’s cloud.
Other Florida participants include Manatee County Area Transit, Hernando Bus, Jacksonville Transportation Authority, & StarMetro Tallahassee.

Legacy Passes (Mag-Swipe Cards) Can No Longer Be Used On Either System
PSTA officially discontinued acceptance of legacy passes (GO Cards) as of January 2, 2024.
HART officially discontinued acceptance of legacy passes (HARTride Cards) as of January 5, 2025.
Some other things to know…
Regardless of whether you use Flamingo, contactless bank cards, or a mobile wallet app, fare capping will apply. This means you will never pay more than the agency’s day pass cost per day & never pay more than the agency’s monthly pass cost per month. Once the appropriate fare cap is reached, all subsequent rides are free.
Be sure to use the exact same payment method for all of your transit rides to ensure that you’re paying the correct fare. This is especially important for Flamingo Fares card & app users, as everything is directly linked to your Flamingo account.
If using a card to pay, please be sure to protect it from any damage & refrain from bending it. The transit agency bears no responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged legacy fare cards or Flamingo cards, nor bears any responsibility for lost or damaged credit or debit cards.
If you purchase a Flamingo card, be sure to register it on the Flamingo Fares website. This will protect the balance of the card should the physical card be lost or stolen. You can also easily reload the card balance on the website. Flamingo cards are available for sale at PSTA & HART customer service centers. An announcement will be made once the 3rd party retail sales network fully goes online.
Disclaimers
Fare information is subject to change. I provide this page as a convenience for those who are looking up customer-based information for PSTA & HART. If I am made aware of any changes, I will update this page as quickly as possible.
