Happy Friday everyone! There will not be a “Friday Rewind” posting for September, despite some of the website updates I’ve made recently. My “Friday Rewind” series will resume on October 25. Instead, I’d like to take a few moments to discuss a change in the way that I post my public transit “roundups”. For those of you who aren’t familiar with what this is; it’s basically a phrase that I give when I’m posting various transit-related news stories and happenings.
For a while now, I’ve been posting my “roundups” in daily “pulses”, which are a series of Facebook and Twitter posts that I’ve compiled from my Facebook News Feed. Although I like to keep people informed about the various happenings throughout the world of public transit, I’ve realized that my current method via my social media channels is comparable to the daily rush hour backup along Interstate 275 in downtown Tampa in the sense that these numerous posts may be appearing in my follower’s news feeds more often than not. Yes, Twitter is perfect for real-time updates, but Facebook…not necessarily all the time.
So to make things more simplified, and to ease this “congestion”, I’m putting my daily transit news finds into a blog post format. The new blog will utilize the same “Coraline” theme that I’m now using on my website, and will be formatted to look almost like a newspaper. There will be one caveat to all this however, and that will be in regards to “Breaking News” items, which I will still post on my social media feeds. These news stories will then appear in that day’s “roundup” blog post. I will also have a weekly summary of “Top Stories” each Saturday to wrap up the week in transit news.
I’m currently structuring the new blog and will announce at a later date as to when the first “roundup” post will be published. If you happen to have any suggestions, please feel free to comment on this post! I welcome all ideas! With all of this said, I’m hoping that the new blog format will allow my followers to remain engaged in my site and social media outlets, without being burdened with seeing numerous postings on their news feeds. I also hope that the new format will allow me to come up with some creative “Focus Posts” for my website! Such “Focus Posts” like my “No New Funding (Equals)” series have been come to mind as a result of news stories that I’ve read during the past several months.
The web address of the new “roundup” blog is http://hartride2012transitroundup.wordpress.com/
On another note, I just found out that WordPress now allows bloggers to connect their WordPress account to their Google+ account if they wish! So if you’re following me on Google+, you may start to see my regular blog postings there as well!
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
